POP3

Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) is the most common protocol for receiving email messages. Chances are that you read your email through a POP3 account. Like all the email protocols, POP3 is a simple text-based communication that enables users to retrieve and read their email messages. A POP3 session has three stages: authorization, transaction, and update.

Authorization

In the authorization stage, users provide their login and password to the server by using the USER and PASS commands. A typical authorization stage looks something like this:
