The Party Line

I remember hearing my grandparents talk about the party line that used to be in place in their rural town in Pennsylvania. When you placed a phone call, you needed to remember that if any of your neighbors picked up the line, they could listen in on your phone calls because they all shared the line. Although using a party line didn't allow a lot of privacy, you could choose what to say or what not to say.

In email, people often discuss various topics without realizing that it works on the same principle as the old party line. Anyone with access to the system can intercept and read your email messages. When you realize that your email might not be so private, it could change the information you're willing to send via email.
