Q&A

Q1:Can I store templates in any folder?
A1: No. Word expects to find templates in the user templates folder or one of its subfolders, or in the folder designated as the workgroup templates folder.
Q2:I don't see the file extensions .doc and .dot for my documents and templates in the Open, Save As, and Templates dialog boxes. Why is that?
A2: By default, Windows hides file extensions for common file types. To display them, choose Tools, Folder Options in My Computer or Windows Explorer; click the View tab; clear the Hide Extensions for Known File Types check box; and click OK.
Q3:I created my own template, and I want to see a preview of it in the Templates dialog box. Is this possible?
A3: Yes. Open your template and choose File, Properties. Mark the Save Preview Picture check box at the bottom of the Summary tab in the Properties dialog box, and click OK. The next time you select your template in the Templates dialog box, a preview of it will appear on the right side of the dialog box.
