Part: I Getting Started > Entering Text and Moving Around

Hour 2. Entering Text and Moving Around

For all the bells and whistles that come with a word processing program, you spend the bulk of your time with a much more mundane activity: typing and editing your text. In this hour, you first learn the basic principles of typing in Word. After you know how to get text onto the page, you then practice moving around the document. Finally, you learn all of the skills required to polish your text, including inserting new text, deleting text, and moving or copying text from one spot to another.

The highlights of this hour include

  • Starting new paragraphs and creating blank lines

  • Starting a new page

  • Moving the insertion point in a document

  • Jumping to a particular page

  • Inserting new text into existing text

  • Selecting text in preparation for doing something to it

  • Deleting text

  • Undoing mistakes, including restoring deleted text

  • Moving and copying text
