Task 8 How to Copy Text Formatting

If you have applied several character formats—such as a font, a font size, and a format (bold, italic, underline)—to a block of text in your document and later decide you want to apply the same formatting to another block of text, you don't have to apply those formats to the new location individually. Instead, you can use the Format Painter button to take all the formats from the original block of text and "paint" them across the new text.

  1. Select the Text

Select the text that has the formatting you want to copy (characters, words, whole paragraphs, headings, and so on).

  2. Choose Format Painter

Click the Format Painter button in the Standard toolbar.

  3. The Mouse Pointer Changes

The mouse pointer changes to a paintbrush pointer.

  4. Drag to Copy Formatting

Drag the paintbrush pointer across the text where you want to paint the copied format.

  5. Formatting is Applied

Release the mouse button. The formatting is painted to the block of text (click anywhere to deselect the text).
