Part 2. Using Word > Task 29 How to Print an Envelope

Task 29 How to Print an Envelope

Task 9, "How to Print a File," in Part 1, "Using Common Office Features," covers the basics of printing your Office files; however, some of the Word projects you'll tackle will involve some special printing needs, such as envelopes. When you create letters in Word, you can create envelopes to go with them. Use Word's Envelopes and Labels dialog box to enter addresses and select from a variety of envelope sizes so that you can print your envelopes with style.

  1. Open the Dialog Box

If you have created a letter with an address you want to print on the envelope, open the letter document. If your document doesn't contain the address, don't worry; you can open the envelope feature from any document and create a quick envelope. Choose Tools, Letters and Mailings, Envelopes and Labels to open the Envelopes and Labels dialog box.

  2. Use the Envelopes Tab

Click the Envelopes tab. If needed, type the delivery address and the return address in the appropriate text boxes. If you're using this feature with a letter file, Word borrows the addresses you entered in the letter document.

  3. Open the Envelope Options

To choose an envelope size other than the default size, click the Options button to open the Envelope Options dialog box.

  4. Choose an Envelope Size

Select another size from the Envelope size drop-down list.

  5. Close the Envelope Options

You also can change the font used for the addresses and control the spacing between the addresses and the edges of the envelope. Click OK to return to the Envelopes and Labels dialog box after you finish setting envelope options.

  6. Print

To print the envelope, click the Print button. Be sure to feed the envelope into your printer correctly. Depending on your printer setup, the Feed area in the dialog box gives you a clue about how to feed the envelope into the printer.
