Task 15 How to Screen Junk E-Mail

Unfortunately, junk e-mail is a fact of life. But that doesn't mean that you have to let junk e-mail overwhelm your normal day-to-day activities. Outlook provides an easy mechanism for screening incoming messages: Based on the identity of the sender, you can move messages directly to the Deleted Items folder, the Junk Items folder (where you can review them before deleting them), or any other folder you designate.

  1. Display the Organize Pane

From the Inbox, click the Organize button. The Ways to Organize pane appears at the top of the Inbox screen. ;Organize button

  2. Display Junk E-Mail Options

Click the Junk E-Mail tab to display the options related to the management of junk e-mail.

  3. Set Junk Message Options

From the first drop-down list, select how you want junk messages handled. You can highlight them with color or move them to another folder. After selecting color or move from the first list, further refine your choice with an option from the second drop-down list. Click the Turn on button to establish this filter. Repeat this step to set options for handling adult-content messages.

  4. View Additional Options

To view additional options, click the click here link. The Junk E-Mail tab changes to show additional options. ;Organize button

  5. Edit Junk Senders List

To edit the list of addresses identified as junk senders, click the Edit Junk Senders link. The Edit Junk Senders dialog box opens.

  6. Add a Name to the List

Click Add to open the Sender dialog box, type the e-mail address you want to add to the Junk Senders list, and click OK. Repeat this step to add as many addresses as you want, and then click OK twice to close both dialog boxes. To close the Ways to Organize pane, click the Organize button in the main toolbar.
