Task 29 How to Work with Chart and Axis Titles

You don't have to spend a lot of time deciding on titles for your chart when you first create it because you can add, change, move, and delete titles at any time. For example, you might decide that your chart needs a nice title centered above the chart data, or perhaps you want to rename the axes. You can easily make changes to the various chart elements until the chart looks just the way you want.

  1. Move a Title

To move a title, click to select it and then drag it to a new location.

  2. Change a Title's Text

To change the text of a title, click the title to select it; then click the text. The mouse pointer becomes a cursor. Drag to select the characters you want to change or delete, or click to place the insertion point within the title, and type the new characters. Press Enter to create a two-line title. Click anywhere outside the title when you're finished with your edits.

  3. Delete a Title

To delete a title, click the title to select it, and then press Delete. You can also right-click the title and choose Clear from the context menu.

  4. Add a Title

To add a new chart or axis title, choose Chart, Chart Options to open the Chart Options dialog box. On the Titles tab, type the title or titles you want to insert and click <BOKB> to add them to your chart.

  5. Add More Text

To add additional text to the chart, select the chart and start typing in your text. As you type, the text appears in the Formula bar. Press Enter, and a text box containing the text you just typed appears on the chart. Move the text box to the location you choose by dragging it there.

  6. Add Colors

To add a background fill or font color to either a title or a text box, select that object and choose colors from the Fill Color and Font Color buttons on the Formatting toolbar.

  7. Change the Font or Font Size

To change the font or font size in either a title or a text box, select the text box and then select the characters you want to change. Make changes in the Font and Font Size boxes on the Formatting toolbar.
