Task 14 How to Add and Remove Office Components

If you install only certain Office components and later decide to add more components, or if you find you're not using a program and want to remove it from your hard drive, you can easily open the Microsoft Office Maintenance Mode program and make the necessary changes. To add or remove components, you'll need the Office CD-ROM. Be sure to close any open programs before installing or removing Office components.

  1. Open Office Setup

Insert the Office CD and double-click SETUP.EXE. The first screen of the Office Setup program opens.

  2. Choose an Option

Select the Add or Remove Features option and click Next to continue.

  3. View the Components List

The next screen of the Setup program lists the Office components. A plus sign in front of the component name indicates that the component has additional features; a minus sign indicates that all the available features for that component are listed. Click the plus sign to see all the features associated with the component.

  4. Add or Remove a Feature

Click the drop-down arrow next to the component or feature name to change the item's status. For example, to remove a component, click the drop-down arrow and click the Not Available icon. To add a feature that's currently not installed, click the drop-down arrow and select the Run from My Computer icon.

  5. Update the Components

Continue selecting or deselecting the features you want to add or remove. When you're ready to proceed, click the Update button.

  6. Confirm the Update

When the Setup program finishes installing or removing a feature, a confirmation box tells you that the procedure is complete. Click OK.
