Task 11 How to Use the Office Help Tools

Regardless of your level of computer experience, you might need help from time to time, especially when you're learning a new software program. Help is always a click away in any Office program. You'll find the Ask A Question box on the title bar of any program. You can use it to find help with a particular task or feature. You can also open Microsoft's Office Assistant, an animated feature you can use to look up specific instructions or topics.

  1. Ask a Question

To quickly access help, click inside the Ask A Question box in the title bar and type a question, phrase, or word you want to find help with, and then press Enter.

  2. Choose a Match

A drop-down list of possible topic matches appears. Click the topic that most closely matches your question.

  3. Read the Help Window

A Help window appears with more information on the topic, or additional topics from which you can choose. Underlined words are links to related topics; click the text to follow the link. Use the Back and Forward buttons at the top of the Help window to navigate between topics. To exit the window when you're finished, click the window's Close button.

  4. Open Office Assistant

Another way to seek help with the program you're using is to display the Office Assistant. Click the Help button on the Standard toolbar, press F1, or choose Help, Show the Office Assistant.

  5. Ask a Question

In the Office Assistant balloon, you can type a question or select from the options listed. To type a question, click inside the text box and type it. Then click Search or press Enter. If the question text box doesn't appear, click the Office Assistant character to display the box.

  6. Choose a Topic

The Office Assistant produces a list of possible topics. Click the topic that most closely matches the information you desire, and the Help window opens. (If the question you type doesn't produce the results you expect, enter a new question and try again.)
