Hour 23. Office XP and the Internet > A Brief Internet Primer

A Brief Internet Primer

The Internet began as a government- and university-linked system of computers that has since turned into a business and personal system that contains a seemingly infinite amount of information. The Internet is a worldwide system of interconnected computers. Whereas your desktop computer is a standalone machine, and a network of computers is linked together by wires, the Internet is a worldwide online network of computers connected to standalone computers through modems.

The Internet offers the most unique research and information-access tools ever invented. You can get up-to-date news, stock quotes, and sports scores. You can locate product information, purchase everything from cars to airline tickets, play games, listen to music, view videos, and chat with other Internet users around the world via your keyboard or microphone.
