Part VII: Combining the Office XP Produc... > Sharing Information Between Programs

Hour 22. Sharing Information Between Programs

This hour explores how Office XP products work together. Office programs integrate so well that it is hard to know where to start describing the possibilities. Generally, if you need to combine two or more Office files, you are able to load or embed one product's file within another even though the Office programs that created the two files are completely different.

From inserting links in Word documents to combining an Access table and an Excel worksheet into a PowerPoint presentation, Office supplies the interaction you need. You can also add your own graphics to your Office documents by drawing with the Office drawing tools.

The highlights of this hour include the following:

  • Why drag-and-drop operations work so well between Office programs

  • How to control a drag-and-drop operation to produce a copy, a move, or a link

  • How to edit, update, and break links between Office documents

  • What requirements a Word document must meet to serve as a PowerPoint presentation

  • Which steps you must take to import Access data into Word

  • How to write letters to Outlook contacts quickly

  • How to select WordArt styles when you want to add fancy text titles and banners to your Office documents
