Hour 23. Using Microsoft Project in Work... > Sending Task Updates with TeamUpdate

Sending Task Updates with TeamUpdate

TeamUpdate should not be confused with TeamStatus. A status message is used to gather hard project data, such as hours worked and hours remaining. An update message is used to notify the workgroup of changes that the project manager has already made to the project plan. For example, a task's duration may have changed or the task's start or finish dates have been modified. The team member needs the updated information to keep his or her list of ongoing responsibilities current.

When an update message has to be sent to a team member, an icon appears in the task's Indicators column to remind the manager to send the message. Project managers do not have to continuously review which team members have to be updated about tasks, as Project 2000 keeps track of this information automatically.
