Q&A

Q1:I tried to use the Update Project command to reschedule the remaining work on a dormant task, but it wouldn't do it. Why?
A1: If you have turned off the Split In-Progress Tasks check box on the Schedule tab of the Options dialog box, Project can't split the task and reschedule the remaining work.
Q2:Why can't I enter an actual cost for my resources?
A2: You must disable the check box Actual Costs Are Always Calculated by Microsoft Project on the Calculation tab of the Options dialog box.
Q3:I entered 50% for a task with a 20-day duration. Then I increased the Remaining Duration to 15 days to reflect changes in the plan. My % Complete figure went down. Why?
A3: Project is trying to tell you that the current set of numbers does not add up correctly. On a 20-day task, 50 percent completion splits into 10 days Actual Duration and 10 days Remaining Duration. By increasing the Remaining Duration to 15 days, you have increased the total task time to 25 days. Without also changing the Actual Duration, it will remain at 10 days, so 10 completed days out of 25 total is now a 40 percent task completion.
