Working with the Automatic Linking Option

Microsoft Project's Autolink feature will keep chains of linked tasks intact when you delete or insert tasks within the chain—but only if tasks in the chain are linked Finish-to-Start. Autolink is enabled by default, but you can disable it on the Options dialog box.

This is a time-saving feature if you need to re-order tasks that have already been linked together. If you move a group of linked tasks, Project maintains their connections to each other and to other portions of the project, if the moved tasks were in Finish-to-Start relationships. Otherwise, all bets are off and you must recreate any SS, FF, or SF links.
