Q&A

Q1:My project is front-loaded with a lot of tasks. I'd like to make the Calendar view show more tasks per day in the first month and print the rest of the schedule in the default Calendar format. Can I do this?
A1: You can, but not all in one print command. Set the formatting as you need it for the first month, and then print the first month only. Return to the Calendar view, reset the date boxes to their original size, and print the remaining months. Use the Timescale Dates settings in the Print dialog box to control which months are printed.
Q2:I dragged some boxes around in the Network Diagram and now I want Project to put some of them, but not all of them, back in their original positions. Choosing Layout Now moves them all. Do I have any other options?
A2: You need to use the Layout Selection Now feature. This is not a command you can choose from the Format menu. Either display the Network Diagram toolbar and click the last button (pop-up label will indicate Layout Selection Now), or right-mouse click on the Network Diagram and select Layout Selection Now from the shortcut menu. Be sure to select the boxes you want Project to move before issuing the command.
Q3:I'd like my top-level summary tasks to be a larger point size but all other summary tasks to stay the same size as they are now. If I change the Text Style formatting for Summary tasks, all levels change. Can't I format summary tasks by outline level?
A3: To Project, a summary task is a summary task is a summary task; there is no distinction between different outline levels. Set the summary task text style to the formatting you'll need the most, probably the lower-level summary tasks, and then manually format the others. Use Format, Font to apply manual formatting.
