Hour 16. Fine-Tuning the Project Plan > Collapsing the Task List Outline

Collapsing the Task List Outline

Another way to step back from the project details and get an overview of the items in your project is to collapse the task list outline. This can be done in any view that displays your tasks in a list table, and it's an excellent way to hide the subtasks in a project and just view the first few levels of summary tasks in the outline.

To Do: Collapsing the Task List Outline

To quickly collapse a task list down to specific outline levels, do the following:

1.
Display a view containing a task list, such as the Gantt Chart.

2.
Click the Show drop-down arrow on the Formatting toolbar (see Figure 16.3).

Figure 16.3. The Show button on the Formatting toolbar allows you to collapse the tasks outline.

3.
Select an outline level to view.

The Outline Level 1 option will show the tasks that are leftmost in the outline. Outline Level 2 will show the Level 1 tasks plus all tasks indented one position. Level 3 will show the Level 1 tasks plus 2 indentation positions, and so on.

4.
To display all subtasks again, click the Show drop-down arrow and choose All Subtasks.
