Hour 16. Fine-Tuning the Project Plan > Compressing the Timescale

Compressing the Timescale

Another strategy for broadening your view of the project details is to compress the timescale on the Gantt Chart, which gives you a good overview of the project's workflow. The default Major timescale for the Gantt Chart is weeks and the Minor timescale is days. By compressing the timescales, you can effectively zoom out from the project details. For instance, you might want to change the Major scale to months and the Minor scale to weeks to get a much broader view of the bars and other information in the Gantt Chart. The simplest way to change the timescales is to use the Zoom Out and Zoom In buttons on the Standard toolbar.

To Do: Compressing the Timescale for the Gantt Chart

To change the timescale units on the Gantt Chart, do the following:

1.
In the Gantt Chart view, click the Zoom Out button on the Standard toolbar.

2.
Each click of the Zoom Out button selects a larger set of time units for both the Major and Minor scales.

3.
To decrease the time units on the scales, click the Zoom In button on the Standard toolbar.
