Hour 16. Fine-Tuning the Project Plan > Sorting and Grouping Tasks and Resource...

Sorting and Grouping Tasks and Resources

In addition to applying filters, there are two other Project features that let you view your lists differently: sorting and grouping. Filters (other than Highlight filters) have the effect of reducing the number of tasks or resources seen onscreen; those that do not match the criteria are temporarily hidden. On the other hand, sorting a list or grouping list items leaves all task or resource rows onscreen, but arranges the rows in a different order. In the case of grouping, rows are actually added to the screen to show where groups begin and end.

Sorting the Task and Resource Lists

Another way to focus your view of task and resource lists is to use the sort feature. This allows you to view the task or resource rows in an order that you define. You can sort tasks or resources by criteria such as task name, deadline, or start date. Sorting these items does not alter the ID numbers for the items or change the project schedule.
