Hour 18. Creating Custom Views

The good news is that Microsoft Project 2000 is a highly customizable product. The bad news is that Microsoft Project 2000 is a highly customizable product. There are so many features you can modify to meet your needs within Project that it is common for inexperienced users to feel overwhelmed by the possibilities. There should be a logical order to your experimentation. Most users begin by customizing tables and reports. Many then create custom filters. Some go further and combine custom tables and filters into custom views. Along the way, you might create custom fields for storing additional information about your project, or display your tasks in a different order. Although there are eleven main components of Project that can be customized, this hour focuses on the three most commonly used: custom fields, tables, and views.

In this hour, you will learn:

  • How to create custom tables to display columns of interest

  • How to modify an existing table onscreen

  • How to choose view elements

  • How to create a custom view

  • How to define new data fields for your project
