Q&A

Q1:I need to send my client a Project 98 version of my project plan, but I only have Project 2000 on my system. How do I go about giving my client the appropriate version that they can access?
A1: Open up your Project 2000 plan and go to the File, Save As menu commands. From the File Type drop-down list select the Microsoft Project 98 (*.mpp) file format. Click Save. You will be prompted to save a baseline. Next you will be warned about the issues of saving to a Microsoft Project 98 file format. Select the option you desire. You can now send your client a copy of the plan in Project 98 to view.
Q2:I want to be able to link some Project fields to an Excel worksheet, but I update the data only once a month. How can I prevent the fields from updating every time I open the project, but still update them when needed?
A2: When you Paste Special project data and select the Link check box to link the data to the original application, also select the Manual Update check box to prevent automatic updating. Then, when you want to update the data, open the Links dialog box and click the Update Now button.
Q3:I want to insert photos or art images of products into the Task Notes boxes for Project tasks. How can I do this?
A3: Open the Task Information dialog box, select the Notes tab, and use the Insert Object button to open the Insert Object dialog box. With the Insert from File option selected, insert the file that has the product image you want.
Q4:I want to put an image of a project's Gantt Chart into a Word specifications document. How can I do this?
A4: In Project, arrange the Gantt Chart as you want it to appear in Word, and then click the Copy Picture button. Switch to Word and paste the picture by pressing Ctrl+C.
