Using Import/Export Maps to Exchange Project Data with Other File Formats

You can choose to export selected data to other applications. For example, you can export just the task list with selected accompanying fields, or just the resource pool or a list of assignments. In Hour 19, you learned how to export project data to the HTML format for a Web page.

You can also import data from other applications. Suppose that you have been given an Excel workbook that contains a list of tasks with estimated start and finish dates and you have been asked to put together a project plan from this list. You know that the dates will probably change as the project schedule is developed, but the date ranges you've been given can serve as an initial estimate of duration. If you import the task list and the dates into Microsoft Project, Project can calculate the duration for each task from the dates in the list.
