Understanding the Effects of Changing Task Duration

Recall from Hour 12 that the duration of a task is determined by how long it takes the driver resources to complete their assignments. Therefore, the task's finish is tied to the finish of the driver resource assignments. Any resource whose assigned work equals the task duration is a driver resource. When you increase the duration for a task, Project increases the assigned work for all the driver resources, but leaves unchanged the assignments for non-driver resources (those that don't need the full duration of the task to complete their work). When you reduce task duration, Project reduces the assigned work for the driver resources and only reduces the work for non-driver resources if you reduce duration to the point where they can't finish their assigned work.
