Q&A

Q1:I've been playing around with the assigned work in the Task Usage view, but I've returned the schedule to the original values. Yet, the contour indicator is still in the indicator column. How do I get rid of it?
A1: Apply the Flat contour to the assignment to remove the indicator.
Q2:I assigned overtime work to a resource and it reduced the duration of the task—but the cost of the task went down! What gives?
A2: The regular work was charged at the resource's standard rate. The overtime rate was charged at the resource's overtime rate, but you've left the overtime rate zero. Many people do this, especially for salaried employees who aren't paid for overtime. It's certainly misleading as an indicator of how much of the organization's resources are used up by the project. I recommend putting at least the standard rate amount into the overtime rate field for salaried employees; it gives you a better measure of opportunity cost.
Q3:Does Project still consider the non-working days on the resource calendar when calculating a contour?
A3: Absolutely. The contour is extended around vacation days and holidays.
