Hour 11. Defining Resources and Costs > Improving the Accuracy of the Schedule

Improving the Accuracy of the Schedule

You rarely get to work with unlimited resources or funds, and much of project management is concerned with juggling limited resources to produce the project's output at an acceptable cost. Although adding resources and costs to the project plan requires you to devote more time to the care and feeding of the project document, it will return substantial benefits. One of the benefits will be a far more realistic schedule of dates. If you assign, or allocate, individual resources to work on specific tasks and have told Project when those resources are available for work, Project will recalculate the schedule to accommodate the working times of the assigned resources. It will schedule work on tasks around the vacations and other nonworking times you have identified for the resources. In Figure 11.1, you can be sure that the scheduled start and finish dates for each task take into account any nonworking days for the resources named next to its task bar.
