Q&A

Q1:I named my customized Gantt Chart My Gantt Chart. An ampersand is in front of the letter G in the chart Name field in the View Definition dialog box, and the chart name appears on the View menu. But when I open the View menu and press G to display the chart, the menu highlight moves to the original Gantt Chart option and neither chart appears on my screen. Why?
A1: The G you picked as the hot key for quick access to your customized chart is already in use by the original Gantt Chart. When you open the menu and press G, Project doesn't know which G you mean. You can either look at the menu, choose an access key not already in use, and return to the View Definition dialog box to move the ampersand in front of a different key; or leave the view alone but press G twice and then press Enter to display your customized chart from the View menu.
Q2:I'm creating a new Combination view, but it won't let me specify the tables or filters to use. Why not?
A2: A Combination view is just that—a combination of two existing views. You must first create each of the two halves of the view. When you create the views for the top and bottom of the combination view, specify your table and filter choices in each of those view definitions.
Q3:I experimented with creating some custom views before finding one I like and want to keep. How can I get rid of the ones I don't want in my file?
A3: Use the Organizer to do some housekeeping. Choose Tools, Organizer to display the dialog box. Select the Views tab at the top of the box. Look for the name of the open file at the top of a view list, probably the list on the right side of the box. Select the views to be removed, and then click Delete and confirm your choice. Note that you can also rename your custom views in this dialog box.
