Exercises

Your manager has suggested you open a supplied Project template to see if it can be a good starting point for your own software development project. In the following steps, you create a new file based on a template and examine its contents a variety of ways. See the Introduction for instructions to access the solutions for this exercise on the book's Web page.

  1. Create a project file based on the Software Development template.

  2. Navigate through the project to answer the following questions:

How many tasks are in the project?

    How many tasks are milestones?

What is the scheduled start date of the first task in the list?

What is the scheduled finish date of the last task in the list?

  3. Change the timescale to display Months over Weeks. Change the bottom label to a month/day display (mm/dd).

  4. Increase the row height and wordwrap the task names for Tasks 2–5.

  5. Investigate Task 8, "Conduct needs analysis." Split the screen to display a form at the bottom. Does Task 8 have any resources already assigned to it? If so, who? Also, does Task 8 have any predecessor tasks? If so, which one?
