Hour 2. Becoming an Instant Project Guru > Practicing with a Sample File

Practicing with a Sample File

You get the most benefit from this hour if you can display a project file onscreen that is already developed. I recommend that you open the file I use as the basis for my illustrations. It's one of the Project 2000 templates that is copied to your hard disk when you install Microsoft Project. If you already have a project file that you are going to be working with, you can open it also and try things out with both files.

To Do: Creating a Project from a Template File

To create a new file based on a supplied Project 1template, do the following:

1.
Choose File, New from the menu.

2.
In the New File dialog box, select the Project Templates tab.

3.
Select the New Product template.

4.
Click OK.

5.
If Project displays a Project Information dialog box requesting date and scheduling information, simply click OK to close the box.
