Adding Your Own Clip Art, Video Clips, or Sound Clips to the Gallery

Excel allows you to organize your clip art images, sound clips, and video clips in its Clip Gallery. Once you import a file into the Gallery, you can insert it into any Microsoft Office document, including an Excel workbook, Word document, or PowerPoint presentation. Follow these steps to import a file into the Gallery:

  1. Open the Insert menu, select Picture, and select Clip Art.

  2. Click the tab for the type of file you want to import. For example, to import a video clip, click the Motion Clips tab.

  3. Click Import Clips. The Add clip to Clip Gallery dialog box appears.

  4. Change to the folder that contains the file you want to import and select the file from the list.

  5. Select an option:

Copy into Clip Gallery. Copies the file into the Clip Gallery folder.

Move into Clip Gallery. Moves the file into the Clip Gallery folder.

Let Clip Gallery find this clip in its current folder or volume. Indexes the file without copying or moving it.

  6. Click Import. The Clip Properties dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 30.2.

  7. Type a description for the clip in the text box.

  8. Click the Categories tab and select the category or categories in which you want the clip to appear.

  9. Click the Keywords tab. To add a keyword to describe the clip, click New Keyword. Then type the keyword you want to add, and click OK. For example, you might add the keywords happy, people, and winning.

  10. Click OK, and the clip is added to the Gallery.
