Reading Mail

When you log on to Outlook, your Inbox folder appears, and any new messages you've received are downloaded from your company's mail server. If you use Internet Mail, you will have to connect to your Internet Service Provider to download your mail using Outlook. Then any new mail will be placed in your Inbox (see Figure 7.1). If you watch closely, when you connect to your network or Internet Service Provider a downloading mail icon appears in the lower right of the Outlook window, showing you that new mail is being received.

Caution

My Outlook Doesn't Open to the Inbox If Outlook opens to Outlook Today, click the Inbox folder on the Outlook bar or click the Messages link in Outlook Today. Either of these alternatives will take you to your Inbox. You can also make sure that Outlook opens to your Inbox by changing the Advanced options found in the Options dialog box. Customizing settings like this are discussed in Chapter 24, "Customizing Outlook."
