Controlling Paper Size and Orientation

The default in Word is to format documents to fit on standard 8 1/2- by 11-inch paper, and to print in portrait orientation, which means the lines of text run parallel to the short edge of the paper. You can specify a different paper size, selecting from several standard paper and envelope sizes—or you can define a custom paper size. You can also print in landscape orientation, so the lines of text are parallel to the long edge of the paper.
