Lesson 8. Using Word's Proofreading Tool... > Checking Spelling and Grammar as You...

Checking Spelling and Grammar as You Type

In addition to checking your document's spelling and grammar all at once, Word can check text as you type. Words not found in the dictionary are underlined with a wavy red line, and suspected grammatical errors are marked with a wavy green line. You can deal with the errors immediately—or whenever you choose. Use the following steps to turn automatic spell/grammar checking on or off:

  1. Select Tools, Options to open the Options dialog box.

  2. If necessary, click the Spelling and Grammar tab.

  3. Select or deselect the Check Spelling as You Type and the Check Grammar as You Type check boxes.

  4. Click OK.
