Inserting a Symbol

To insert a symbol in your document, follow these steps:

  1. Click Insert, Symbol to open the Symbol dialog box (see Figure 19.1). Click the Symbols tab if it is not already displayed.

  2. Click the Font drop-down arrow and select the desired symbol set from the list. The ones you will use most often are

    • Greek letters, mathematical symbols, arrows, trademark and copyright symbols, and so on.

    • Normal Text Letters with accents and other special marks, currency symbols, the paragraph symbol, and more.

    • WindDings Icons for clocks, envelopes, telephones, and so on.

  3. Look through the grid of symbols for the one you want. To see an enlarged view of a symbol, click it.

  4. To insert the highlighted symbol, select Insert. To insert any symbol, double-click it. The inserted symbol might be hidden from view by the dialog box.

  5. Click the Cancel button to close the dialog box without inserting a symbol. Click Close to close the dialog box after you insert one or more symbols.
