Creating a New Style

You are not limited to using Word's predefined styles. In fact, creating your own styles is an essential part of getting the most out of Word's style capabilities. You can create a new paragraph style by using the following steps:

  1. Find a paragraph to which you want to apply the new style.

  2. Format the paragraph as desired. In other words, apply the formatting you want included in the new style definition: font, indents, line spacing, and so on.

  3. With the insertion point anywhere in the paragraph, click in the Style drop-down list (not its arrow) to highlight the current style name.

  4. Type the new style name, which replaces the current style name, and press Enter.
