Inserting AutoText

There are several methods available for inserting AutoText entries into your document at the insertion point:

  • If the AutoText toolbar is displayed, click the middle button. This button is labeled with the name of the current paragraph style if that style has any AutoText entries associated with it. If the current style is Normal or has no associated AutoText entries, the button is labeled All Entries. Select the desired AutoText entry from the list.

  • If AutoComplete is enabled (see the following steps), start typing the name of the AutoText entry. When you have typed enough of the name to identify the entry, Word displays the matching AutoText entry in a small tip box next to the cursor (as shown in Figure 18.3). To insert the entire entry, press F3 or Enter. To ignore it, simply keep typing.

  • Click Insert, AutoText. The next submenu displays the AutoText entries, if any, that are associated with the current paragraph, and you can select the desired entry. If the current paragraph style is Normal or has no associated AutoText entries, the submenu displays a list of styles that have AutoText entries associated with them. Select the style that has the entry you want, then select the desired entry.
