Lesson 18. Saving Time with AutoCorrect ... > Creating AutoText Definitions

Creating AutoText Definitions

Word enables you to store any text and graphics in a named AutoText entry. You can then insert the text or graphics in any document simply by typing or selecting its name.

When you create an AutoText entry, it is linked to the paragraph style of the original text from which the entry was created. When you need to insert an AutoText entry, the list displays only those entries associated with the paragraph style of the paragraph containing the cursor. The exception is when the cursor is in a paragraph with the Normal paragraph style, in which case all AutoText entries are available. Thus, if you create an AutoText entry from text in a paragraph formatted with a style named Formal, that AutoText entry is available only when the cursor is in a paragraph that has the style Formal or the style Normal applied to it.
