Saving a Document Under a Different Name

After you name a document, you might need to change its name. For example, you can keep an old version of a document under its original name and save a revised version under a new name. To change a document name, follow these steps:

  1. Click File, Save As. The Save As dialog box appears, and shows the current document name in the File Name text box.

  2. In the File Name text box, change the filename to the new name.

  3. (Optional) Select a different folder in the Save In list box to save the document in a different folder. Click the Create New Folder button to create a new folder in which to save the document.

  4. Click Save. Word saves the document under the new name.
