Creating a Template from a Document

Sometimes you might find it useful to create a template based on an existing Word document. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Open the document that you want to use as the basis for the new template.

  2. Use Word's editing commands to delete any document text and formatting that you do not want to appear in the template.

  3. Select File, Save As to open the Save As dialog box (see Figure 24.2).

  4. Click the Save as Type drop-down arrow and choose Document Template from the list. The Save In box automatically changes to indicate the Templates folder.

  5. Type a descriptive name for template in the File Name text box.

  6. Select Save.
