Creating a New Template

You learned in Lesson 4, "Saving and Opening Documents," that every Word document is based on a template which contains formatting specifications and—optionally—text that will be part of the document. Word comes with a variety of predefined templates. You can also create your own templates, or modify existing templates, to suit your individual needs.

You can create a new template based on an existing template, and the new template will contain all the elements of the base template plus any text or formatting you add. To create a new template from scratch, base it on the Blank Document template. Here are the steps to follow:
