Lesson 15. Advanced Style Techniques > Automatic Spacing Between Paragraphs

Automatic Spacing Between Paragraphs

The appearance of your documents improves if some blank space is left between the of one paragraph and the start of the next. You can accomplish this by pressing Enter twice at the of a paragraph, in effect inserting a blank line between paragraphs. By using styles, you can not only have greater control over your paragraph spacing—you can save time, too. Following are the steps:

  1. Click Format, Style to open the Style dialog box. Select the desired paragraph style in the Styles list.

  2. Click Modify to open the Modify Style dialog box.

  3. Click the Format button, and then choose Paragraph from the list that appears. The Paragraph dialog box opens (see Figure 15.3).

  4. If necessary, click the Indents and Spacing tab.

  5. In the Spacing area, enter the desired spacing or click the increment arrows in the Before text box (for space preceding the paragraph) or the After text box (for space following the paragraph).

  6. Click OK twice, and then click Close. Paragraphs in the selected style now automatically have the specified amount of blank space preceding or following them.
