Lesson 2. Working with Databases > Reading the About and Using Documents

Reading the About and Using Documents

Everything that is stored in Lotus Notes is stored in a database—for example, your mail is contained in a mail database, and when you click on Help you open the Help database. Lotus Notes is much more than email, however, and its real purpose and function is as a groupware tool—a place for you and your co-workers to come together for discussions, sharing and editing of documents and information, communication through email, and so forth. In this lesson you learn how to open a database and use those elements that are common to all databases, such as views and supporting help documentation. The mail database is used in the example here, but if you have access to another database created by your company, you can use that database while working through this lesson.

To open a database from a bookmark, click on the Databases button on the Bookmark Bar to display the Databases bookmark page. Click the bookmark to open a database. The first time you open a database, the About this Database document might appear, stating the purpose of the database.
