Lesson 2. Navigating Outlook > Do I Need to Log Off?

Do I Need to Log Off?

If you are connected to your email service through your corporate network, you really do not need to log off or close Outlook. This allows Outlook to periodically check the mail server for new mail. When you log off your corporate network and close down your computer, your connection to the mail server is also shut down. New email will wait for you on the server and be downloaded the next time you log on to the network and start Outlook.

If you receive your email through a mail server run by an Internet service provider, you connect through a dial-up connection. After you download your email from the server using Outlook, you may want to disconnect from your provider to save on connection time or to free up your phone line. Figure 2.2 shows the connection box used for a dial-up service. To close the connection, click Disconnect.
