Estimating Task Duration

When scheduling tasks, Microsoft Project needs to know how long each task will take to complete. In other words, Project needs to know how much time should be allowed between the start and finish dates for the task. You supply an estimate of that time in the task Duration field.

The term duration is used to refer to the amount of working time it will take to finish a task. Duration can be measured in minutes, hours, days, or weeks, and it always means an amount of working time. Project places a default value of 1 day in the Duration field for each new task, but that means a working day, usually 8 hours, not the 24 hours defined in the dictionary.
