Starting the Task List

You can put together the list of activities or tasks for the project in several ways. The most common method is to build an outline of the work that has to be done on the project. Start by listing the large blocks of activity or major phases of the project. Then break each phase down into greater detail by listing more narrowly defined tasks, known as subtasks, that contribute to completing the major phase. Continue to break down the work into subtasks until you have identified all the activities you want to keep track of in the project.

Subtask A subtask is a detail item that is part of a larger task. If Relocate Wall is a task in a remodeling project, one of its subtasks might be Tear Down Existing Wall and another one could be Frame New Walls.
