Hour 3. Starting a New Project and Worki... > Starting a New Project File

Starting a New Project File

When you start a new project document, you need to define for Microsoft Project the start or ending date for the project—usually the date on which work will begin or a deadline date by which the project must be completed. Project schedules your tasks based on the fixed start or finish date. You should also record the project goal when you start the new document and select any of the option settings that you want to change for that project.

Setting the Start or Finish Date for the Project

When you start a new project document, Microsoft Project displays by default the Project Information dialog box. In this dialog box you are expected to tell Project whether a fixed start date or a fixed finish date governs the schedule. Project schedules all work from the date you select.
