Creating and Customizing Toolbars

As you continue to work with Microsoft Project, you will find that some of the buttons on the toolbars are vital to the way you work, and others are rarely used. This use of buttons is often determined by the type of work you do. In addition, you might find that some tasks you perform frequently have no toolbar buttons available. You can customize toolbars to remove the buttons you rarely use and replace them with buttons to help perform those tasks you use more frequently.

Each button on a toolbar runs a macro—a series of steps designed to perform a task. When you click the Open button, a macro runs that contains the same steps you would take to perform that task using the menus, in this case, File, Open. When you create macros to perform tasks you use most often, you can assign the macros to toolbar buttons.
