Creating Custom Views

Although a number of predefined views are supplied with Project, they may not meet your needs exactly. Perhaps you would prefer that the Summary table be displayed with the standard Gantt Chart instead of the Entry table. Or perhaps your boss wants all summary tasks on the Gantt Chart to be printed in 14-point bold text. You can create custom views from scratch, edit existing views by changing the default settings for the view, or create a custom view by copying an existing view that is close to what you need but not quite right. All three options are available from the View, More Views command. Project views are comprised of several components:

  • The view name, such as Gantt Chart or Resource Usage

  • The basic screen type for the view, such as Task Usage or Resource Sheet

  • The table of Project fields displayed, either a supplied table or one you have customized

  • The filter in effect, either no filter (to show all tasks or resources), a supplied filter, or a filter you have already customized
