Analyzing Progress

How do you measure progress on a project? The first consideration is whether the project will finish on time. Of equal importance for most projects is whether they are staying within budget. You can get this information, and a general feel of the project progress, by examining the overall project summary.

If progress is lacking, however, specific causes need to be investigated. Tasks that are behind schedule, resources that are not completing work in a timely fashion, and general delays caused by competing company projects are all likely causes for a project not meeting its goals. The following sections cover methods for examining these project characteristics.
