Chapter 4. Using Templates and Styles Effectively

Chapter 4. Using Templates and Styles Effectively

Templates can store styles, text, graphics, and user-specific setup information such as measurement units, language, the default printer, and toolbar and menu customization.

A style is a collection of formatting specifications that is given a name. Writer supports:

  • Character styles (typeface, font size, bold, italic, superscript, among others)

  • Paragraph styles (line spacing, space before and after, first line indent, borders and shading, plus a character style for the paragraph)

  • Frame styles, page styles, and numbering styles, described later in this chapter.

This chapter does not cover everything about templates and styles, but it should be enough to get you started.

Tip:

You can get predefined templates from several sources. Check the OpenOffice.org website for links. Save these templates to your hard drive and then import them into the templates folder. See "Import a Template" in section 4.1.2.
