The best ad Microsoft ever ran for Excel went like this: "99% of spreadsheet users use Microsoft Excel. What are we doing wrong?" It was good because it was true; Excel is the biggest thing going when it comes to hard-core business programs. But Microsoft still seems determined to keep finding ways to make it better, warming the hearts of accountants and statisticians the world over.

Excel X offers a modest new feature list, but that's OK—Mac OS X compatibility is quite a hefty feature all by itself. Excel's development team carbonized the program, meaning they adapted it to look and work like a genuine Mac OS X program. That's good news for the charts and graphs that Excel makes, which now capitalize on the gorgeous visual effects offered by Mac OS X's graphics software.
